General Overview Of The Ping I20 Driver

Intro

This driver is especially made for good players and this is not an average golfer’s driver. Ping claims that the weight distribution has been changed to make this club more balanced than prior editions. Its center of balance also enables you to strike the ball and make it fly thru the air with less spin than its previous counterparts. Ping applied a large amount of technology to this driver which may help the experienced golfer work the ball flight. The center spot is smaller though, since it is a more workable driver. It did put more technology in the club face to permit more forgiveness than the i15 driver had when it came out. Read our Ping i20 driver review to find out the good and the bad for this driver.

Overview

Its look is among the best things going for the Ping i20 club. It has a black finish and it feels great when you swing the driver. Compared against the i10 or i15 drivers, you can actually feel how better balanced this driver actually is. The feel of the driver head is provoking as you can feel it all though your swing and you can get instant feedback when you mishit a golf ball. This club is not for the average golfer though as its sweet spot is much tinier than the Ping G20 club, so it’s a smart move that you bypass this club if you are a high to medium handicapper.

The Good

The one thing good that is going for the i20 driver is the superior look it has over just about any other driver in the market today. The weight and balance also gives the club a good feel and when you hit the ball it appears to shoot off the club face like a bullet. At $349, the price is O.K for it being a new model, nonetheless it could definitely be better. It is quite easy to manipulate because you can feel where the driver head is throughout your swing. The Ping i20 club will make the ball fly a lot easier than any club out in the market today.

The Bad

The Ping i20 is good nevertheless it actually isn’t that miles better than the i15, although it does look better. You might need more leniency from the club, even if you’re a seasoned player, because the ball doesn’t go far if you mishit it. One disheartening thing we noticed on the i20 is that it can simply shoot off to the right or left on mishits, unlike the Ping G20 which has straighter ball flights on mishits. The shaft selection is also another thing some experienced players may not like about the i15. This driver only has 2 shafts that you can get with the club, and if you like a certain shaft, then you will be asked to pay extra simply to have the shaft you need put in this driver. The stock shafts are good, but the selection is disappointingly limited.

Bottom Line

This club isn’t truly a must buy for your golf club collection. It’s not a massive improvement over its forefathers like the i10 or i15. The only reason to buy this club is when the club you have in your bag is already old and worn out. You need to hit the driver in the middle on a regular basis but after you do, it does drive the ball well when you it in the sweet spot. This club is especially made for the serious players and if you are simply a newb or you are only starting, then this isn’t for you.
